Into the Final 2 Weeks! A very big new Kickstarter reward

Less than two weeks to go for our Kickstarter!!

It's been amazing and with just 2 more weeks until the campaign is over, this is the final countdown. As I write this, our Kickstarter is at $68,160 and we've been in at least 20 high quality and popular websites, magazines and newspapers. It has truly been a successful Kickstarter for us on many levels.

But we aren't done yet. We still have two weeks to go and we've just added a very exciting new reward to our Kickstarter. We've partnered with Peace Bicycles to offer a complete bike with our products on it.

Complete Bikes with Kliks and Crates now available on Kickstarter

Peace Bicycles just finished their successful kickstarter of Dutch inspired bikes and I must say that their bikes are better than anything I ride around town and I really want one. 7 speeds, front and rear lights, a chain guard, fenders and of course a sturdy rear rack while weighing a respectably light 15 kg or 35 lbs.

We are trying out the complete bike idea with 5 of Peace Bicycle's Dreamer series bikes right now. The bikes will come with the Klik and Crate for $850 and free shipping to the continental USA. You will also be able to pick between two types of bike frame geometry, step-through or standard.

13 days to go...

We only have 13 days left so tell your friends. We are successfully funded so we are moving forward with all of the improvements to our line but now is the time to be a part of our beginning. It is also the cheapest time to get any of our products, before we have to start selling through distributors.

Please share our page and let people know that we have a complete bike option now and only 13 days left. It's time to go out with a bang.

Team Fietsklik.

Hitting $50,000 on Kickstarter and Adding a New Color!

We've Surpassed $50,000 on Kickstarter!

A short and sweet update. Fietsklik fans we've passed $50,000 on Kickstarter which means we are introducing a new color for our Klik and our Crate, magenta!

Everybody Loves
Magenta

If our Kickstarter hits $60,000 we will also be adding green to the product mix.

Dollar Green

If you are interested in either of these colors, the quickest way to get them is to support our Kickstarter campaign and pledge.

Thanks!

It's been a hugely busy couple of weeks at Fietsklik. We were at the Amsterdam bike show, FietsVak, launched our Kickstarter and have had a huge amount of industry press!

FietsVak

We had a blast at the Amsterdam Bike Show, FietsVak. We were happy to see so many of you and new faces come by our stand. We had a great time showing off our upcoming products and hope to see you there again next year!

Kickstarter

As you probably know, our Kickstarter has been up and running for a few weeks now and we are already reached 95% of our funding goal of $40,000 with over 220 backers. The outreach and support from you all so far has been just outstanding and we are happy to see our momentum is only growing.

We are going to reach that $40,000 goal this week and blow past it! All thanks to your loyal support of

This 'Kickstarter thing' and why we're on it

As many of you have heard by now, we've launched a campaign on Kickstarter.com.

But what is Kickstarter.com and why are we on it? Considering the website and connected phenomenon of crowd-funding are pretty new, it's not surprising if you haven't heard of it.

What is Kickstarter

Kickstarter.com is the largest crowd-funding platform around. It is one of the go-to places where people get together to raise money for projects and ideas, so that companies with cool and innovative ideas don't have to rely on large investment funds to be able to develop their products.

The way kickstarter works is quite simple: a startup creates a page on the platform where they put up a video and additional information that explain their idea or product. The page and video outline how much money they need to make their project a reality - their funding goal - and what their supporters will get in return for their pledge when their project reaches the funding goal. A pledge is Kickstarter terminology for the financial micro-injections made by whoever wants to invest in that particular project.

If a project doesn't reach the funding goal, the supports don't get charged anything and the project creators don't have to worry about completing a project short of cash, making the whole process very low risk for everyone involved.

Since Kickstarter began in 2009, over 5.7 million people have come together to raise over $1 billion for creative projects so far on Kickstarter. It's proven to be a really great way to connect with people, raise awareness and get feedback as well as raise that last bit of funding needed to complete a project.

Why we’ve launched a campaign

We’ve set our funding goal at $40,000 on Kickstarter. We’re still developing our products and the $40,000 we’re looking to raise will go a long way towards completing the development of our Crate and getting our child seat's safety certification.

In return for your support, we are giving some great discounts on our products that will only be available through Kickstarter,

like our Klik and Crate for $99

or our Klik, Crate and 2 Bags for $169 (only available to the first 100 pledges)

And for our European backers: remember the prices listed on our Kickstarter page are in dollars.

Our Kickstarter campaign

So far our Kickstarter campaign is going very well. We’re actually hoping to pass our $40,000 funding goal so we can add two new colors to our crate collection: magenta and green.

The international exposure our campaign has given us has also been amazing. We’ve received pledges from Japan to Argentina and are extremely grateful and happy with the international support.

We hope your willing to support us in this exciting project. Please help us spread the word and share our Kickstarter project page or this post.

Together, we can make this a huge success,

The Fietsklik Team.

The Fietsklik Biweekly

The 1st Fietsklik Biweekly: of covers, crates and trade shows

It's a hugely busy time for us at Fietsklik. Our little startup is growing and our team is expanding. From now on you'll be hearing a lot more from us, starting with these biweekly updates to keep you updated on the progress that we are making.

Like I said, a lot is going on. We have a trade show in Amsterdam this weekend and have been working away on making our Crate even better. Not to mention, we have a Kickstarter about to launch.

The Trade Show

First things first. If you happen to be hanging around Amsterdam, come out and see us at the trade show. We are going to be at FietsVAK from today until Tuesday in RAI. The show is open to the public this weekend, so come chat with us and check out our the products. We would love to see you.

New and better features for our Crate

We've been working on our Crate for a couple years now and we aren't stopping anytime soon. Just because something is done, doesn't mean it can't be better. It's all about building on what we have. It's not just our flagship product, it's also like our baby and we want it to be the best it can be.

The Crate Cover

We've been listening to the feedback we've been getting from our first small batch of customers. One thing we kept hearing is they want a cover for the Crate, so we went ahead and made one.

We are super happy with the design. It will keep your stuff dry, your beer bottles clean and we can easily make it in many colors. Right now we are experimenting with 4 colors but don't be surprised if we add a few more.

New Wheels

The wheels on the Crate really make it special and extremely easy to use. We've been looking at ways of making them better, tougher and quieter.

What you see above are some prototype wheels we are hoping to bring to market this year.

You'll see both the Crate Cover and the new wheels as part of our upcoming Kickstarter campaign. Stay tuned for more on that...

Next Generation (Safety) Gear

Cycling gear is evolving at the same speed in which the popularity for every-day cycling has grown, if not faster. New designs and developments in cycling gear have opted for simplicity, practicality and comfort. These are all qualities that can be found in the latest safety accessories.
Products reviews for the Swedish-made Hövding started appearing online in 2010, although its creators have been busy with the design since 2005. The Hövding is the first inflatable bicycle helmet that does not even look like a helmet. The appeal of the Hövding is found in its sleek design, whereby the user has only to wear a collar around the neck, which inflates once its’ in-built sensors have determined that the user made an ‘abnormal’ movement – such as when an accident occurs. This video illustrates the moment of impact with a car and a dummy- and the Hövding’s response: inflating at the speed of 0.1 seconds, the helmet appears just in time to prevent major injuries as the dummy hits the ground.
The internet’s response to the Hövding has been largely positive, although some lament the heavy price tag. But is 399 euros too high a price to pay for a cool, sleek, and smooth accessory that might also save your life? That’s up to you to decide. The only downside that we can agree on is the product’s one-time-use, meaning that it might not be worth it if you are accident-prone. In this day and age, though, there is an alternative to everything, and as an alternative to the Hövding we offer the Danish-designed Yakkay helmets.
image
Like with the Hövding, the Yakkay helmets are also focused on making the safety of cycling more fashionable, especially for the urban cyclist.
In the Netherlands, Fietsklik’s home-base, cycling been integrated into the traffic system to the point where helmets are simple ‘not done’- since cyclists have their own lanes, the chances of a strong collision with other vehicles is minimal. Perhaps also the fact that most people ride on classic models, instead of racing on road bikes, makes the Dutch less likely to integrate safety cycle-gear into their every-day look.
Nevertheless, the risks of urban cycling still loom large, and products like Yakkay and the Hövding recognize that (urban) cyclists still want to look good while protecting their heads.
Yakkay helmets come in two parts: one, the helmet itself, which is available in various colours and has several air-holes on the top. And then the second and crucial part: the helmet hat-cover. Each hat-cover can be changed around, with various choices available to please a number of fashion styles.  Of course, it is not as technologically developed as the Hövding, with its intricate sensor mechanism. Nevertheless! the Yakkay are adaptable and, for now, offer the most attainable and stylish solution against riding helmet-free.
As Fietsklik supports the seamless integration of cycling into everyday life, we would like to promote more safety measures - yes! even in places where cycling is the norm. So we will be offering Yakkay helmets on our webshop and Amsterdam store - check up on us soon!
